When you do, you lose your connection, but it happens only once the
remote unit has implented the command (aka: success).

Note that on unix systems, you have the ipmitool command line which has
the ability to remotely set the ipaddress of the ipmi management interface.

ipmitool -H old.ip.address -U user -a lan set ipadr 10.0.0.45

(I haven't tried the command for obvious reasons).
