   I seem to recall that somewhere in a book by Edwin Newman,
he claimed to have seen a reference to the family name
"Rockerfellow", which was someone's attempt to tidy up
"Rockefeller".  (A Google search runs into the "Did you mean:"
problem, but I'd guess "Strictly Speaking".)  "Would of" could
be the result of a similar attack on "woulda".  But here we
descend into speculation, not unlike trying to imagine what's
happening inside a chimp's brain.  (Have I been spending too
much time watching "The Big Bang Theory" on DVD?)
