The tale of TCPIP within VMS would be a good "story" to hear.  How did such an important / integral piece of software never really get "good"? You want to believe that engineers were trying their best, but man, what a pile of poop! After the first 3 or 4 major versions, why didn't they cut their losses and just buy TGV or license their product or form a partnership or do something other than what they did with their own product?!
