Modern drives will normally revector bad blocks on writes.  So writing to 
the disk, will make bad blocks disappear.  I don't know right off hand if 
the driver returns some alternate success code for revectoring.  The SMART 
data on the drives can actually tell you how many blocks have been 
revectored over the life of the drive.  Is there some utility to read the 
SMART data from OpenVMS?
