Update:

(1) I am RTFMing Chapter 11 of the System Manager's Manual, on using BACKUP.

(2) I have successfully created a saveset on a tape and I can list its
contents using BACKUP/LIST/REWIND MKA0:SAVESET.DAT

(3) During the whole time I'm using the tape drive, the sliding carriage
is in the "open" or "out" position. Isn't this weird? There doesn't seem
to be a way to make it close (slide back in) without removing the tape.
In other words: when I press the button with the tape loaded, the LED
display says EJECT and the tape is ejected. Then it says OPERATOR, which
I take to mean that I am to either reload the tape or remove it from the
drive. After removing the tape, pressing the button again causes the
carriage to slide back into the case.

(4) There are two buttons and two sets of lights: one above the LED
display and one below it. Only the one above the LED works. Pressing the
button below the LED display does nothing.

(5) I'm using a DDS-3 tape for this test. Am I correct in assuming that
any 3.8mm (4mm) tape will work; just the capacity will be limited to 2
GB uncompressed?
