I seem to remember reading something (or hearing it while on a training course) a long time ago that the parent of 000000.DIR was a "special" directory with notation as [000,000]000000.DIR . It does work:
$ dir/full dsa0:[000,000]000000.dir
Directory DSA0:[000,000]
000000.DIR;1 File ID: (4,4,0)
Size: 3/16 Owner: [1,1]
Created: 12-SEP-2008 09:15:43.79
Revised: 18-MAY-2009 12:48:38.86 (6)
That might just be some legacy from the RSX days though.
Cheers,
Art
