Bound volume sets have not been in mainstream use for a very long time
on VMS.  LD driver may have been the only bug, but I wouldn't bet my
life on this.

And I certaintly wouldn't even consider using it on 8.4 since the
newbies haven't yet completed their training about .DIR files so I doubt
they are up to snuff with the intricacies with multi volume devices and
multi volume files.
