Remarkably, the built-in USB on an XP1000 seems to work
these days (as of when, I don't recall, but it's been a while
-- V8.3? -- possibly with a custom entry in
sys$user_config.dat), but a cheap ($10?) Chinese USB PCI card
(with an NEC chip) should work, too. (The built-in XP1000 USB
thing needs to be enabled in the SRM console, but that's
easy.) A cheap Chinese NEC-chip card might work in an AlpSta
200, too, but I may never have tried that before my AlpSta 200
systems were retired, too. (Not so many PCI slots in those,
either.)

Not everything is supported now, but many things do work.

Perhaps you need to stay in more (and play with your junk).
An XP1000 can be much more fun than the older/slower stuff.
