[Info-vax] Copying VMS SaveSet Under Windows

JF:

I'm sure you're correct that it would be possible to read a stream of
bytes from the tape on a Unix box using something like dd. Then, I
suppose, you could use a binary editor to discard the VMS header. Then
you'd have to break the data down into the individual files of the
saveset (.A, .B. etc.), right? BTW How do you know how many files there
are - or do all savesets have the same number of files? How do you know
where the end of the saveset is?

But if I read correctly, all these questions are moot because the OP is
looking for a quick-and-easy solution under Windows, which is not going
to happen since Windows in all likelihood will just produce a fatal
error message when it tries to read the VMS header (I have not tried
this but apparently the OP already did).

Jan-Erik:

The problem that occurs is with the VMS version number, which some FTP
clients choke on. That would happen with a ZIP file as well.

Agreed.
