The issue was to export datasets from MVS on 3480 cartridges,
to be read seamlessly (i.e. w/o intermediate storage or conversion)
on VAXen. It wasn't possible with AL tapes, so we reverted
to NL tapes, and we had to do the book keeping
(file #xx on tape yy corresponds to file run0815.dat, etc)
on paper sheet.
