I don't think so. They could build BCS class servers with the 8086. And
remember that Tandem servers have a lot more "special" features than
just the CPU so they need their own fault tolerant servers.
The new HP superdome is an interesting product, blades with CSI/QOI
memory interconnects in the backpane. This could easily be built using
current 8086s.
However, there would be some commonality/overlap between the BCS servers
and the industry standard servers and HP might see fit to combine both
units.
