What's preventing me from trying that out (at the moment) is cabling.
I think I know what the problem is: I'm using an internal 68-pin cable
with an active negation terminator crimped on the end - so far, so good.
However, the 68-to-50 pin adapter I'm using (apparently) is terminating
the high bits, so the high bits are terminated twice.
I'd like to try it on a narrow-only bus (like the VAXstation's) but I
don't have any way to terminate the bus.
The manual recommends attaching a pass-through (inline) terminator on
the DDS3 when the DDS3 is the last device on the bus. I don't understand
how an inline terminator can work when it is before the device (I
thought the terminator had to be physically at the end of the bus), but
I guess it's wired that way internally.
I found a supplier for such an inline terminator, so it's just a matter
of ordering it and shelling out the dough.
Another idea I had was to buy a cheap narrow drive and put that on the
bus after the DDS3. That way the VAXstation could have its own disk
instead of being a satellite (which raises all kinds of configuration
issues I'm not ready for yet - see my other message).
