It's still not clear to me what exactly you wish to do.  Considering
your earlier mention of hexadecimal data: I guess that the LD driver
(as you already proposed yourself) or BACKUP are probably a better
idea then?

But, why did you specifically mention Windows and Linux?  That is a bit
confusing, especially as this kind of 'functionality' isn't platform-
specific nor dependent, now is it?  (If all you want to do is view the
'container' as hexadecimal data.)
