If this is so, then the value of HP's PC business lies solely in its
name, marketing and distribution. (aka: its market share).
None of those get transfered to a chinese buyer like Lenovo, especially
since HP needs to keep those for the printer business which shares
distribution, marketing etc.
I am not sure HP will get much money for its PC business. In the case of
IBM, it was their own "consumer" product, so they could include
distribution etc with the sale to Lenovo. But HP will need to keep all
that for its printer business.
And there is also a question of synergy. Right now, HP has the power to
include a free printer when it sells a PC. Sell the PC business and
this isn't as easy anymore.
