Apple has success with the iPhone.

HP buys Palm, to get back in the mobile business.

Microsoft gets Nokia essentially for free.

RIM/Blackberry's business model is faltering.

Google buys Motorola's wireless business.

It seems that mobile is an area reserved for the big guys. Apple managed
to get in at the right time and become not only a big guy, but the
gorilla in the room everyone has to emulate and fear. Apple's hype-based
marketing seems to work not only on consumers but also on competitor's
executives who now think it is impossible to beat Apple.

It is interesting that HP would be throwing in the towel so quickly. It
is after all a big guy and should have the ability to compete. It should
have the financial and human resources to produce a top notch product.
Or did HP make Palm's talent redundant and choose to have offshore
drones "maintain" the software ?

If Apple is in the mobile market, it can't be because margins are too low.

Lets see how Apotheker handles HP-UX, VMS, NSK and Itanium. I have a
feeling those will be the next shoe to drop.
