An interesting article from Forbes:

Basically: Dell progressively outsourced to ASUS in Taiwan. Eventually,
ASUS did everything from design to shipping. Then ASUS turned around and
started to sell its own branded PCs in the USA and undercut Dell.

The article talks about how tradictional cost cutting is short term and
in the long term, you basically pull the rug from under yourself by
giving your busiess to what will become your competitors.

Perhaps HP has realised this and want to at least get some money form
its competitor before throwing in the towel.
