Define "cheap" and "low-end". If you really want to get
some work done, I'd look for an EV6 (or up) system. The
cheapest of those was traditionally the Compaq Professional
Workstation XP1000. More than 2GB of memory would be nice,
but, so far as I know, 2GB is the limit. And the firmware is
old and (too) stable. Nicer (and more expensive) would be
the XP900 (=) DS10. Still nicer: DS20E.

DS10L has only one PCI slot, and limited space for memory.

If you only want an Alpha so that you can say that you
have an Alpha, then almost anything will work. My
oldest/slowest (never used now) systems are AlphaStation 200
4/233. Max memory there is 768MB.
