And Intel has since increased the level of access it has to all fo the
Alpha technologies as well as gotten many of the Alpha engineers.

In 1997, Palmer was already in talks with Pfeiffer over Compaq buying
DEC. So the agreement with intel would have had that as background.

Lets not forget the rumours that Digital did get some sort of royalties
out of this and access to cheap 8086 chips (then only 32 bits) to help
Dec build competitive PCs. Supposedly this deal was seen as an sset to
Compaq who used it to lower its cost of the 8086 chips for all its PCs.
