Sorry, lack of ECC in my brain memory. Because HP had/has to send
billions to Intel for IA64, they would be very aware of those costs and
that it is needed to keep HP-UX, NSK and VMS alive.
The board isn't aware of expenses such as pencils. But they are aware of
large sums paid to folks like Intel.
And they would be aware that VMS/HPUX/NSK customers generate support
revenues and that killing IA64 inappropriately would cause many/most of
them to move to a competitor.
A board would not be in charge of developping a strategy to maintain
those customers, but they would task the CEO to get that done.
