There's no self-service fueling here, in Oregon.  There's been attempt 
in the past to allow it, but I seem to recall the governor vetoed it.  
The price of fuel in the Portland area seems to be fairly consistent 
with prices across the border in Washington.  There are many times I'd 
prefer to fuel my own vehicle, generally because the attendants are so 
inefficient, but I also know that I'd be at the gas station much more 
often, since my wife would insist that I fuel her vehicle.
