Denmark regularly turns up at #1 in surveys of the happiness of the
people in various countries. Yes, taxes are the highest in the world
(interestingly, within the last couple of decades, the Social Democrats
have been in power for only the last few months; the highest taxes in
the world existed during the previous government (which, in US parlance,
would be considered libertarian)) but the total money spent on health
care per person is less than in the US, but the quality is better. BTW,
although details vary, essentially all European countries are similar to
Denmark, at least when compared to the US.
