Pipe smoking seems to defy common wisdom about health. Some insurers rate
pipe smokers as non-smokers and some studies have shown pipe smokers live as
long or longer than average. It may be more the personality who takes up
pipes than it is pipe smoking itself but it seems to have some
connection. The pipe smokers I know are all quite healthy and happy sorts.

If he's from Denmark he'll have many choices in pipes and tobaccos.. It's
probably best if he visits a shop local to him. There are a few categories
of tobaccos but many many subcategories. To get close on the first shot
people really need a serious conversation with someone who knows. A safe bet
is to avoid aromatics like Captain Black and any other strongly scented
tobacco. They attract beginners because of the nice smell, but they burn
very hot and have no taste at best or taste awful at worst and have caused
many a potential pipe smoker to throw out his pipe. Get qualified help or
risk failure.

> Perhaps, he just needs a bigger dog?

Could be, little dogs do tend to be yappers and most small breeds aren't
known for being calm. A great Dane is a nice companion dog and suprisingly
based on their large size, don't need much room to live comfortably. A brisk
daily walk or run in the park is fine to keep them happy in an apartment. As
always, get qualified advice from a few breeders. And the small dog isn't a
total loss, he can always feed it to his new big dog for a snack.
