I looked at more recent figures, 2008 - 09, and I see that New Jersey 
isn't first in spending per pupil.  They now fall behind New York, and 
just barely behind DC, but the new figure is $16,271 per pupil.  I 
thought Oregon was bad at $9,805 per pupil.  They say that Catholic and 
other private schools in the area spend about half as much per pupil and 
generally provide a better education.
