There's also an element of theft and insurance fraud in densely populated
areas.

When I moved to one place my insurance was refused, since the area was
notorious for car theft (mainly down to one teenager apparently).

On another occasion my car stereo was stolen, they caught the thief, and
I was issued a copy of the compensation order by the court. I found it
very hard to believe that so many people had spent so much on car
stereos. I had the impression that I was the only one who had put down
the real cost of my stereo, the rest were wildly exaggerated.
