Given the risks of being sued for malpractice, you can't expect your
doctor to let you write your prescription and sign it without reading
it. I know enough of the shorthand doctors use to translate my
prescriptions into English but there's no way that he's going hand me
that pad of blank prescriptions and let me roll my own!
QD :== qua die or each day
BID :== bis in die or two each day
TID :== tris in die or three each day.
P.O. :== Per Os or by mouth.

Good books to have:
"Physician's Desk Reference" and
"Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary" F.A. Davis Company, Philadelphia

These books, and others, can help you understand your condition(s) and
treatment. They DO NOT make you a physician! The books are NOT cheap!
I suspect that most people just read the directions on the bottle and
follow them. I want a little more.
