So, the JDRF is ripping off millions for $millions to find the cure?
I should have known... that MTM has such shifty eyes.

Insulin is a hormone needed for matabolism of carbohydrates and fat.
Without it, glucose will build up in the blood stream -- and rather
quickly -- leading to coma and death if not treated. Wiki for DKA.
Insulin dependence is a term used to describe people with an auto-
immune syndrome that has destroyed the cells in the pancreas which
produce insulin. I have yet, and I'm closer to the issue than most,
to hear that an ID diabetic could go off of insulin. However, I'll
take up a discussion with my endocrinologist next time I meet with
her.
I'd wager your cats diabetes is more closely related to what is now
known as type-II. That's an insulin resistance that's been linked
to obesity. It's not insulin dependent. In fact, many people with
II don't take insulin. I've heard of IIs that have been on insulin
and then, lost weight and weened themselves from insulin. I've NOT
heard of the same happening in the ID, type-I, JD encampment.
Perhaps, I'd be cured if I shat in a sandbox? :)

Nah, It'll just go back to preaching the "wonders" of that criminal
organization we call gov't.
