I actually use that ting once in an emergency. Off course, it locked
up my rear wheels and I went a little sideways, but I did manage to
stop the car without hitting anyone.

This after a worn brake pad actually fell out of a caliper, rending
the normal brake useless for several pumps. ('95 Toyota Camry, having
a problem with that caliper; I had planned to change the brake pads
   and overhaul the caliper soon.)

I don't know if the backing plate from the third party brake pad was
thinner than spec, or if it was a design flaw. I just keep a closer
eye on both brake pads and calipers now.
