   The TCPIP FTP server doesn't do anything very good with
symbolic links, either, especially ones which don't actually
point to a file.

   Some years ago, I looked at a "Wput" program.  (I changed
it to let it steal from Wget the code to parse an FTP
listing, which solved its problems when dealing with a TCPIP
FTP server.)  But I never did much with it on VMS,
particularly for wildcard file spec expansion, so I suspect
that, even if I could find the stuff, it probably wouldn't be
particularly helpful to you in a case like this.  At least
not without some serious work.
