Everyone,
A check of the DNS (using NSLOOKUP), together with some background on
the domain registration process easily explains the parking page.
When a domain registration expires, the DNS is often re-pointed to a
parking page, in accord with the domain registrars policies. The
original owner has a period of time to reclaim the domain (this deals
somewhat with the inevitable administrative errors, as well as people
being away from email for a bit -- for personal and technical reasons
-- consider all of the people who were cut off when various natural
and political events interfere with Internet access).
For the next day, or couple of days, depending mainly upon your ISP's
name servers, the parking page may appear. This is as expected. The
DNS (at this instant) is showing that the expiry for records is 7
days, the refresh is 8 hours, and the TTL is 1 day. Until all of the
systems in the DNS food chain leading from your individual ISPs to
GoDaddy.com (the registrar for OPENVMSHOBBYIST.ORG) purge their cached
information, the parking page will appear. This is as expected. When
assisting clients with DNS changes, I always caution them about the
implications of this phenomenon.
