I'm not sure that there IS such a thing as a "reliable drive"! One of
the primary reasons why we make disk backups is that disks are NOT
reliable. The other reason for backups is human stupidity; somebody
deleted or overwrote a file that he/she should not have!
Your disk drive may be DOA, it may arrive in working condition and fail
three days later. It *might* last four or five years. A "rule of
thumb" is that if a device survives the first 30-90 days it will
probably survive for the next three to five years. This assumes that
the temperature in the computer room stays within specifications and
that the AC power remains within specifications, etc.
