Yes, there are some extreme applications where data security is too 
expensive.  I heard about some oil company which sets off explosions, 
detects the sound waves at various locations, and then analyses the data 
with a huge Fortran code to determine where there is likely to be oil.  
The cost of shadowing the disks would be more than the experiment, so if 
the data are lost before the analysis is complete, they just set off 
some more explosions.
