"IBM gets fat on Oracle-HP Itanium spat"

Comment: I always wondered what happened at IBM (and SUN) the day HPQ
announced they were killing Alpha. Hand springs perhaps? Imagine that
you are in a neck-to-neck race then one of your competitors drops out
to change their shoes while the rest of you continue the race.
However, maybe these front runners slowed down a bit because the next
iteration of Itanium might change the race.
If it is true that the next iteration of Itanium (Poulson) will be
more RISC like (see another thread in this news group), and if it
comes out in 2012 as promised, and if Intel skips 45nm then employs
32nm as promised, then I predict "that everything will change for HP".
You might even see Oracle's board force Larry Ellison to renege on his
plan to stop developing Oracle s/w for new Itanium chips.
