Whoa! I have been a bit wondering about your posts in the past, but this
proves you must have been living in another universe.
Few things were more hated than HP-UX, or VUE.
HP machines were bought because they were fast, and in spite of their
horrible software environment.
Our university had a bunch of them, and nobody wanted to use them, even
though they were fast. They finally disapperared, replaced by Sun
machines, even though they were slower. SunOS was so much nicer and
better that HP-UX it was not even fun to compare.
I have not seen anyone ever claim that HP-UX or VUE helped HP machines
gain popularity before. Actually, I have not seen anyone claim that HP
machines were popular before, period.
Sun machines were almost everywhere. From where I was sitting, HP
machine were just about as common as DEC machines, which means very few
in between. DEC mostly because they cost too much, while HP because
nobody wanted them.
