Interesting!  The OP wrote that he has an Alpha Server 1000A 5/300
with 5 memory banks,
each bank has 4 slots.
I just saw the output of >>> SHOW CONFIG and the machine
identification is correct.
I don't have an AlphaServer 1000(A) with 5 memory banks on the main
board, never tried to
boot one with the 5th bank empty (the one that holds the ECC simm(s)).
Apparently that is possible.
Mark could you post a photo of the main board?
