   I do't know if it still happens, but the last time I really had to
   work with Sun's ftp server, a large enough listing would return
   an empty listing and success code.

   Drove us up a wall trying to figure out why our programs could not
   find files that ls clearly showed were there!  (We were using the
   RFC's provision for a machine readable list of files.)
