You didn't. The way the question was worded gave me the idea that the
OP used the
term license while actually meaning LMF. The question was when LMF was
introduced
with VMS, and V5.0 is the correct answer.
Literally taken, of course a license to use a product has always been
necessary.
Which doesn't mean that it will never rain in license land but
Montagar provides a useful umbrella.
