I have installed VMS on a VAX730 from an RL02 kit.  If I remember 
correctly, it was two disks (BASE and LIBRARY?).
Add to that the TU58s required to load the firmware and then the TU58s 
to load STABACKUP.
It was a whole day project.
I have also installed VMS from RX50 to a MicroVAX II.  I don't remember 
the exact VMS version (it was probably 4.7) or how many disks it was, 
but I also installed ADA from RX50 that night and seem to remember 
loading almost 100 floppies!
