Before uninstalling, I think you missed the configuration step.  Use:
$ directory sys$manager:*config*.com
I've forgotten the exact name, but I seem to recall it being in 
sys$manager with config in the name.  If you find a reasonable looking 
command procedure, use it to configure MultiNet.
