When you say 'both ends' do you mean both ends between a switch and
a host?  You must, of course, match what the switch is set for.

We used to be told to use static configuration for DE500's.  I.e., set
both the switch and the host for your desired configuration, typically
100/full. Apparently the negotiation between some switches and the DEC
interfaces was unreliable.

If you mention the switches you are using perhaps others will have
experience with your configuration and will let you know whether it 
worked for them.

Oh, and are you making your settings via LANCP or doing it at the
console prompt?  I've used both, but doing it via the console level
is the tried and true method.
