As with many issues (e.g. global warming), there is no danger to the 
Earth as a planet or to the long-term future of (some form of) life, but 
rather to our civilization as we know it now.  Cutting down trees might 
increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, at least if 
none are replanted, but paper production is probably the least of our 
worries.  Also, electronic is not necessarily better.  How much carbon 
dioxide does a Google query produce?
