I never cared about HP. But I care about Digital and to some extent
Tandem. Both had developped unique technologies that made significant
contributions to the IT world, especially Digital with its VAX and Alpha
chips that inspired others, as well as wth VMS with innovative features
such as all the clustering technologies and many other things.


Anc it is sad to see those die again when HP falters.  We had hopes that
Compaq would resurrect Digital. It faltered and ended up in HP's hands.
And now, the same thing is happening again. Except there is nobody left
to buy HP except perhaps an asian or indian company.
