[Info-vax] Problem with SMTP (outgoing mail)

I am in the process of moving mail service from one server
to another on the same lan. I am using MX from Madgoat (v5.4)
and as far as I can tell the MX and TCPIP settings are the same
on both machines. This is unfamiliar territory for me as the MX
mail system worked fine on the older machine (VMS 6.3) and didn't need
maintenance.
What is not working on the replacement machine (VMS 7.3) is SMTP,
(outgoing) mail to Internet addresses are failing. In MX
the messages show up in the queue as "ready" and waiting
until later to retry. I am not sure whether this is a problem
with MX or TCPIP. Internal mail is working fine. As well, I
don't know what information you would need to help. I have
searched through the COV but what I found has not been helpful.
Since incoming mail is handled by Google, I'm not sure that MX is
even needed and TCPIP is sufficient. I feel (hope) that this is
simple problem.
Thanks,
Ransom Fitch
