While this may have historicaly been the case, since his return to
Apple, he succeeded in breaking out of the traditional Church of Apple
membership.
Apple laptops are everywhere. And ipods and iphones are everywhere too
and certaintly not tied to the very religious members of the Church of
the Apple.
While Mp3 players existed before, it was Apple that succeeded in going
mass market and killed the "Sony Walkman" once and for all.
Apple is also killing brick/mortar music stores with its itunes store
which has been for a few years already, the world largest music store.
You don't build the world's largest music store in less than 10 years by
restricting yourself to a niche market.
When I particpated in CRTC (canada's FCC) hearings, I was surprised to
see the number of folks with Apple laptops. I thought I was going to be
the first. Yes, telcos which have business relatiosups with Microsoft
still have windows laptops, but the rest had Apple laptops.
In fact, LION (the latest OS release) was designed to ignore the
established "fan base" (dropping support for older applications and UI
features that were well estabished) in favour of glitz that attracts an
even greater market potential.
