That is the big question.

Laptops are still big business.

Mac Pros (cnventional tower) are not big, but they cater to a loyal
bunch of users (such as graphic artists, game makers etc).

They are still needed to develop the "billion" apps that are available
for iToys. So they may be kept around as a strategic ite, just like
compilers etc.

This is a bit like HP keeping low end IA64s in "workstation" configs to
allow developpers to develop apps for the bigger boxes.

In many ways, Jobs drove the industry. (dropping floppy, going USB,
etc). And in recent years, the push was to IOS devices (iphone, ipad
etc). The introduction of LION was called "Back to MAC" because Apple
was moving IOS features to the OS-X system (whereas in the past it was
done in opposite direction). I think Jobs was moving towards mobile
tactile devices as the standard.

How things will move under Tim Cook remains to be seen. There may have
been some directios that Apple directors did not agree with but went
with becase Jobs wanted it that way. Only time will tell.
