Yes. But in a different way. There were many personal computers around
such as the Commodore PET, Apple II and even the TRS80.
IBM cam in with its inferior tech, higher price, but with the name IBM
on it.
Businesses, of course, went with the IBM name and bought thousands fo
IBM PCs, and the softare industry all gravitated around companies who
bought software.
So IBM used its cout in the industry to shove its PCs to people and
companies.
The "Nobody,s ever been fired for choosing IBM" was still very much
valid back then.
