DCL$PATH is very useful for utilities that expect command line
parameters but don't reside in SYS$SYSTEM.
If they are then MCR is my friend (and perhaps yours too).
Putting DCL$PATH in SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM is something I'd only do when
I'm sure I'll be the only user
on that system.And though that is true for most of my computers I
still prefer
$ define/use dcl$path <target>
to run foreign utilities.
