Glad you liked it - a favorite of mine.

I actually wasn't thinking of this when I dreamt up the IQ reduction
scenario, but it seemed to fit in perfectly well to the discussion that
followed and I thought some might appreciate it.

The physics seems to be at a pretty high level.  Did find a typo trying
to wade thru the crystallography section - something seemed odd in has
3D spatial Fourier transforms and then I realized that he used the same
function letter for the function in the spatial domain as he used for
its transform.  As you know using the same letter of the alphabet is
common, but you then change case or italicization in order to avoid
confusion.
