Considering that a couple months after killing its own tablet/portable
OS, Whitman also annouce HP would build new tablets that wun
Microsoft's mobile OS, I'd say that the relationship with Microsoft was
important.

And as long as the relationship with Microsoft remains important, HP
will continue to be measured in Wintel sales/market share, and this
means that focus on its own competing products (NSK/VMS/HP-UX) may
continue to be very low key.

Considering that Apotheker omitted BCS from his strategy document, and
considering how Oracle used that as one of the reasons to kill Oracle
from HP's products, it will be interesting to see if Whitman corrects
the situation with some public statement or whether HP continues its
"business as usual" (aka: ignore BCS products and let them wither away
little by little)
