How about just backing up the whole disk?  All the files you are looking for 
will be included in the save_set.  Your problem statement says nothing about 
retrieving the files; if they are only needed on an "emergency" basis, then it 
shouldn't matter that "other" files are included.  Your customer can retreive 
files "as needed" at their leisure.
