The VMS docset does, indeed, tell you everything you need
to do to change your node name. It would help to know
whether you've installed and configured DECnet IV, DECnet V,
and or TCP/IP services? Is your Simh VAX clustered?
The minimum starting point is to edit MODPARAMS.DAT to get
rid of any spurious characters in the SCSNODE specification,
then Autogen and reboot.
It's been a while (quite a while!), so the following is
from faulty memory: if you're running DECnet IV, you'll need
to update the executer node name, i.e., in NCP. Similarly,
if TCP/IP is installed, you need to find where the hostname is
set and correct it.
